I'm a Thai-Scottish American writer and I use the pronouns she and her. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and did graduate study in English in Seattle, Washington. After my time in academia I spent 15 years working as a union organizer, assisting with and leading campaigns across the United States. I am now pursuing an MFA in Fiction at Pacific University, and my thesis will comprise selections from my novel in progress. My family and I reside in Oakland, California, which is the land of the Jalquin Ohlone speaking tribal group.
I currently volunteer on the Intersectional Roundtables Committee with VIDA, Women in the Literary Arts. I've also volunteered for the VIDA count, which is a rigorous tally of the gender breakdown in major literary publications and book reviews each year. This important data is critical to an accurate understanding of the state of gender diversity and representation in these publications.
