The Lands Photographed

The images you see in this website are photos I took in the Oregon coastal towns of Gold Beach and Seaside in 2018, 2019, and 2021, and Pajaro Dunes and Oakland, California in 2022. Pajaro Dunes is the land of the Amah Mutsun Tribe.  Oakland is Huichin, the unceded home territory of the Chochenyo speaking Ohlone people. Gold Beach, Oregon is the land of the Coquille Indian Tribe. Each year the Pacific University MFA Winter Residency takes place in Seaside, Oregon, which is the land of the Clatsop-Nehalem Confederated Tribes.

I believe it is our responsibility to return stewardship of these stolen lands to the Native peoples who lived and continue to live on those lands. A land acknowledgement such as this does not right this historical wrong, but is an effort to raise consciousness regarding our relationship to the places we choose to visit, live, and work in.
