The Lands Photographed

The images you see throughout this website are photos I took in the Oregon coastal towns of Gold Beach and Seaside from late 2018 - January 2019. Gold Beach, Oregon is one of the places along the Pacific Coast that my family and I visit, and it is the land of the Coquille Indian Tribe. Each year the Pacific University MFA Winter Residency takes place in Seaside Oregon, which is the land of the Clatsop-Nehalem Confederated Tribes. My family and I reside in Oakland, California, which is the land of the Jalquin Ohlone speaking tribal group.

I believe it is our responsibility to return stewardship of these stolen lands to the Native peoples who lived and continue to live on those lands. A land acknowledgement such as this does not right this historical wrong, but is an effort to raise consciousness regarding our relationship to the places we choose to visit, live, and work in.
